History

In 1879, the Altona HK Notnagel & Co. suggested as a tenant of the located at Quickborn sky Moores, where peat was mined as a heating medium, the construction of a railway for the transport of peat to. The municipalities Quick Born and cold churches and the then independent town Altona supported this project. After the founding of Altona- Kaltenkirchener Railway Company (LFS ) in 1883 and promise of the emperor on April 27, 1883 already started the construction of this new Railway in autumn 1883. On September 8, 1884, the passenger traffic was opened on the line from Gählerplatz in Altona after cold churches, on 24 November of the same year followed the freight. The shares were held by the City of Altona, the communities Quickborn, Ulzburg and cold churches and from the construction company Kintzel & rascals.

In 1981, the AKN which also operated in the HVV Alster Northern Railway (ANB ) and Elmshorn - Barmstedt - Oldesloer Railway ( EBOE ). For the ANB AKN had the management held since the beginning of 1953, in which EBOE since 1957. 1992, the Alster Northern Railway was sold to the public transport company Norderstedt ( VGN ), the operation will continue to carried out by the AKN.

To date, 50 percent of the shares of the city of Hamburg and 49.89 percent are held by the State of Schleswig -Holstein. The remaining 0.11 percent are private.

Route network

Original route of the AKN is the railway line Hamburg- Altona- cold church Neumünster. AKN since 1965 participating transport companies in Hamburg Transport Association ( HVV). In the Hamburg high-speed rail network, the AKN - lines in addition to the U -Bahn ( underground ), S -Bahn (S ) and regional trains (R ) marked with an orange A. However, other colors are used to route plans, which show only the AKN - lines, and in publications regardless of the HVV: red for the A1, A2 and green for the dark blue for the A3.

In almost the entire route network (from Boostedt since 2002) the tariff of the HVV, otherwise the Schleswig -Holstein - tariff applies. There is also a collective impetus for changing traffic with Deutsche Bahn AG.

In the course of the railway reform in the mid- 1990s, the AKN also successfully participated in the bidding process for the operation on other routes, some of which were previously operated by the Deutsche Bahn.

Since December 15, 2002 moves the Northern Railway, a subsidiary of AKN Eisenbahn AG and Hamburg elevated railway AG, at the to Bad Segeberg reactivated from Neumünster Neumünster route - Bad Oldesloe (HVV - R line 11).

From 14 December 2003 to 10 December 2011, it operated the Schleswig -Holstein -Bahn, a 100 percent subsidiary of AKN, passenger traffic on the routes Neumünster Heath and Heath Büsum with through trains. Previously drove AKN passenger trains have to Heath. Since December 11, 2011, this route is also operated after re- tendering of the Northern Railway.

Since 12 December 2004, trains on the line A1 twice a day ( Monday to Friday ) on Eidelstedt addition to Hamburg Central Station, taking the tracks as well as the driving power for their VT -A dual power rail railcar from the side busbar of the Hamburg S -Bahn use from Eidelstedt on their way over Stellingen Langenfelde Diebsteich, Holsten street, Star Jump and Dammtorbahnhof to the central station. For December 13, 2009, the evening cruise offer was given to the central station, only the two morning driving through weekdays have been retained.

Since December 2005, trains on the line A2 ( as before ) in the morning and in the afternoon from about Henstedt -Ulzburg addition until cold churches.

Expansion and acceleration

Currently, the travel times of the AKN are many relations are not competitive with the car, even considering the distance from station to station. This is a result of

  • By the lack of binding of the AKN railcars in Neumünster and Eidelstedt for travelers in the center of Hamburg or Kiel
  • The small distances between the stops along the lines A1 and A2
  • Designed solely to the 100 km / h routes
  • The only to 88 km / h to 105 km / h designed speed of the railcar

Thus, for example, is the driving time between Henstedt -Ulzburg and Kiel average of 87 minutes, between Bad Bramstedt and Hamburg Central Station about 75 minutes. To improve the situation, several concepts have been developed. Among the measures under consideration include the expansion of routes AKN for higher speeds, the establishment of express lines with a reduced number of intermediate stops, or the construction of a connection line to the airport S- Bahn Hamburg.

The construction of a connecting line to the airport is not supported by the Schleswig-Holstein state government because of the considerable cost burden of at least 150 million euros at present. The country instead focuses on the expansion of the existing route of the AKN between Eidelstedt, Quick Born and cold churches that could be operated by both the AKN and from the S- Bahn Hamburg. Both companies are interested in operating the route. In preparation for a possible extension of the S- Bahn network of section Halstenbeker road will be expanded to the border near the breakpoint Burgwedel and a new breakpoint Schnelsen South erected after the section Bönningstedt to 2013 - Quick Born has already expanded fully double-tracked. AKN called in the past to set up a full-day umsteigefreien connection Eidelstedt to Hamburg Central Station, but failed while in the operating costs and the limited line capacity. With an extension of the S- Bahn line at least the Path capacity would represent a significant obstacle more.

Freight traffic

In the southern and eastern Schleswig-Holstein Hamburg AKN operational freight traffic on the remaining stretches of the former Südstormarnschen circular path, Bill Werder industrial railway and Bergedorf - Geesthacht Railroad (BGE ).

In the north, especially the route from Hamburg - Langenfelde Gbf is frequented regularly by Neumünster Süd, the route of Henstedt- Ulzburg to Barmstedt when needed. In the south of the industrial area of Hamburg- Bill Brook and the routes Tiefstack - Glindemann and Bergedorf - Geesthacht was served. Six diesel locomotives were in use.

As of December 31, 2010, freight traffic was stopped and sold the locomotives up to one ( 2.017 V ).

Rolling stock

AKN is a two-piece passenger railcars LHB VT 2E with diesel-electric drive. 1976 were put into service 16 two-car units designated VTE, 1993 then 18 of the more developed type VTA with asynchronous motors. Four railcars of which include the transport company Norderstedt ( VGN ). Eight railcars of the type VTA were retrofitted with pantographs, drive since 2004 on the portion Eidelstedt - Hamburg Hbf S-Bahn Hamburg -electric power input via the lateral busbars.

For years, the AKN a stronghold of the MAN - rail buses in northern Germany, from where in 1956 two (VT 11 and 12) and 1963 eight additional copies (VT 2:13 to 2:20 ) were purchased, two more went in the associated Alster Northern Railway. 1969 two additional railcars ( VT 2.09 2.10) were purchased used. In addition, there were seven associated control cars into service.

1969 were also used four Uerdinger rail buses bought in 1981 came with the acquisition of Elmshorn - Barmstedt - Oldesloer Railway ( EBOE, also: EBO ) added seven more of these vehicles, two of which are now operational and are used for special services. With the purchase of new railcars in 1993 the remaining railcars were superfluous.

For freight transport, the AKN had several diesel locomotives. One last MaK G 1100 BB with number 2017 V is for work train service in 2012 still held.

Your 15 oldest two-car VTE or VT 2E 1976 will AKN soon replaced by new ones. The tender and order was completed in May 2013. AKN therefore ordered 14 new railcars of type LINT 54, this will be delivered by the end of 2015.

Former vehicles

The traffic was recorded with five -axle fully enclosed tramway locomotives from Henschel, who had a central buffer coupling. With extension of the line and normal three-axle locomotives were purchased, possessed the pushers on the usual, the state railway train and the first three, also from Henschel, but still possessed because of driving on roads with a disguised engine. With growing traffic stronger locomotives were always procured eight-coupled for the first time in the early 1920s. 1947 were purchased three cars Prussian T 13.1. The steam locomotives were all scrapped and sold to mid 1950 's.

The first diesel locomotive was a 1947 purchased the small path of Ostprignitz 1935 built two-axle diesel locomotive DWK (V 11, later V 2011 ), in the following year to be procured another of the V 36 similar locomotive of Deutz (V 1, later V 2001 ), but this was stopped in 1967.

This was followed by the mid-1950s several MaK rod locomotives, first three MaK 600 D in the years 1953/1954 (V 2-4, later V 2002-004 ). In 1956, the fleet was further growth in the form of a Deutz A4M 220 R (V 5, V later 2005 ), a true V 36 and a further Deutz- replica -type (V or 6-7 V 2006-007 ), two MaK 240 B (V 8-9, later V 2008-009 ), and a MaK 400 C ( V 10, V later 2010 ), who had found their way to the VHH AKN. From the EEO AKN also received in 1969 a further MaK 600 D, the 2001 was given the number V in understudy, and was stopped in 1973 after an accident.

The first Großdiesellok in 1964 based in the form of a Deutz DG 1200 BBM (V 2012 ), and two more from something less powerful type DG 1000 BBM (V 2014-015 ) followed in 1968, another DG 1000 BBM was established in 1974 by the EEO under the number V 2.013 adopted, which had in the meantime been wearing a rented Deutz MG 530 C. All four Deutz- large diesel locomotives were 1995/1996 sold to the Karsdorfer railway company.

Of the original four 1970/71 MaK G procured three (V 2016, V 2018 and V 2019 ) 1100 BB were sold in the years 2004 and 2006 to Italy, the fourth ( 2.017 V ) is still at AKN in use. An outsider in the otherwise dominated by two manufacturers Deutz and MaK fleet presented the 1974 procured 2,020 V, a Henschel DHG 700 C, represents, which was sold in 1983. The later acquired locomotives were all sold northrail in 2010 to the company. It involves four MaK DE 1002, brand new in 1985, another ( 2.022 V ) in 1995 acquired one of which ( 2,021 V) of the Teutoburg Forest Railway and the other two (V 2023 and V 2024 ) 2002 were bought by the Dortmunder Eisenbahn,

In 1930, the AKN the first three railcars. There were four-axle vehicles with 81 kW petrol engines of the Triebwagenbau Kiel ( TAG) were built. Because of their experiences, a fourth rail car was purchased in 1934, this time from the left -Hofmann -Werke and with diesel-electric drive. 1940 was followed by another railcar of the same company, because of fuel restrictions was a regular railcar operating but no longer possible.

After the war, in 1951 contemporary Esslinger railcars were purchased in 1955 and a further two control car, 1953, Esslinger two railcars of Bergedorf - Geesthacht Railroad adopted.

AKN possessed up to 34 cars, seven van, three with mail compartment, and 120 freight cars, including seven milk truck.
