Alaşehir, the ancient Philadelphia, is the capital of the district in the Turkish province of Manisa. Alaşehir located near the road Izmir -Ankara. Alaşehir is located 118 km east of Izmir at the northern foot of the Tmolos and at Kusu Çay, a tributary of the Great Meander. The still partially enclosed by the ancient wall city has 46 544 inhabitants.

The city did not fall until 1390, as the last city in Asia Minor, in the violence of the Turks after they had fought for eight years against the odds.

With Izmir it is connected by a railway line.
