Altenmarkt im Pongau is a market town with 3788 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Austrian province of Salzburg.

Geography

Altenmarkt covers an area of 48.63 km2 and has a population density of 72 inhabitants per km2. The village belonged until 2004 to the judicial district of Radstadt and since 1 January 2005, part of the judicial district of St. Johann im Pongau.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Altenmarkt, Palfen and Sinnhub.

History

Already in the Roman road map appears on the roadside station Ani. It can be assumed that the place name Ani with the name of the Enns, whose name was Anisus related.

The first mention was made in 1074 in the deed of gift of the Archbishop Gebhard to the monastery Admont. Until the 13th century, the name Rastat was used.

Traffic

Through the Tauern motorway ( A 10), and the Federal Highway 320 and State Road 99 Old Market is connected to the transport network.

  • House of Culture: 1950 built as a fire station, rebuilt in 1993. The Culture House is a public building, can be held in the events.
  • Retirement home: opened in July 2007, with 70 beds and next to the health center in an ideal location. The old people's home (built in 1968, 30 bed nursing management: Mr. Rohringer. ) Was demolished in 2008.
