Amphawa District

Amphoe Amphawa ( Thai: อำเภอ อัมพวา ) is a district ( Amphoe ) of Samut Songkhram Province in central Thailand.

Geography

The county is situated slightly inland at the northwestern edge of the Bay of Bangkok.

Neighboring districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Bang the Khonthi Mueang Samut Songkhram and Samut Songkhram Province, the Amphoe Ban Laem and Khao Yoi Phetchaburi Province, Amphoe Pak Tho and the Wat and Phleng Ratchaburi Province.

The Maenam Mae Klong ( Mae - Klong River ) flows through the northern part of the county.

History

In the Ayutthaya period, the area of ​​today's Amphawa as Khwaeng Bang Chang was known, a small agricultural and trading community. It is recorded in writing that it existed since the reign of King Prasat Thong.

The future King Phutthaloetla ( Rama II ) was born here, as his father was the governor of Ratchaburi at that time.

Attractions

  • Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram ( Thai: วัด อัมพวัน เจ ติ ยา ราม ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) from the early Rattanakosin period. The Viharn was recently renovated and painted with murals in historical style.
  • Birthplace of King Phutthaloetla - The birthplace is probably in or right next to Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram. Today there is a "King Phutthaloetla Naphalai Memorial Park " ( Thai: อุทยาน พระบรม ราชา นุ สร ณ์ or short อุทยาน ร .2 ) with four buildings in traditional style. Management

Amphoe Amphawa is divided into 12 communes ( tambon), which in turn in 96 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

There are three small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:
