Arieșeni

Arieşeni (Hungarian Lepus ) is a town in Alba county in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

The municipal area extends beyond the area of ​​origin of the river ARIESUL Mare - a source flow of Aries - in the Bihor Mountains (Romanian Munţii Bihorului ), in western Transylvania. The nearest town is 40 kilometers Câmpeni and the county capital Alba Iulia about 120 kilometers (each southeast). A few kilometers southwest of the town is the highest peak of Bihor and at the same time of the Apuseni Mountains, the Curcubata Mare, with 1849 meters.

History

The village as such was first mentioned in 1909 under the name Lepus. The settlement is, however, far longer. She was part of the 1673 first mentioned large community Raul Mare - which included the hamlets in the valley of ARIESUL Mare - and has been heavily influenced by forestry and grazing.

Population

1930 lived on the territory of the present town of 2020 inhabitants. In 2002, the 1921 residents of the municipality designated in the 18 mostly small settlements throughout as Romanians. The population increased since the peak in 1966 (then 2990 ) significantly.

In the village itself Arieşeni lived 2002 98 people.

Traffic

Arieşeni is located on the National Road (drum National) DN 75 from Turda ( Thornburg ) to Ştei (Hungarian Vaskohsziklás ). This leads west of the village on the Vârtop Pass ( 1160 m), which is an important connection between the Crisana and Transylvania.

Attractions

  • Built in place in 1791 wooden church Înălţarea Domnului, has an important collection of wooden and rear glass icons. Today, covered with a tin roof, the church is a listed building.
