Atamanovka, Zabaykalsky Krai

Atamanowka (Russian Атамановка ) is an urban-type settlement in the region, Transbaikalia (Russia) with 10,381 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The settlement is located approximately 15 kilometers in a straight line southeast of the center of the regional capital of Chita, on the left bank of the Amur River Ingoda source, the area of ​​its Durchbruchstals by the main ridge of the Tscherskigebirges, below the confluence of the creek Nikischicha. On both sides of the valley rise the wooded summit of the central mountain range to approximately 1100 m.

History

The town was founded in 1852 by Cossacks as to Staniza Titowskaja (now part of Chita ) belonging settlement Atamanowski. The name is of Cossack military rank designation Ataman was derived. 1900, the Trans-Siberian Railway was led past the place and opened the station Atamanowka.

1958 Atamanowka received the status of an urban-type settlement under the present name.

Economy and infrastructure
