Bagnac-sur-Célé

Bagnac -sur- Cele ( Occitan: Banhac ) is a southern French village with 1551 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ). It is located in the cultural landscape of the Quercy in the Lot department in the Midi-Pyrénées region.

Location

Bagnac -sur- Cele is located in the southwestern foothills of the Massif Central on the River Cele at a height of about 240 meters above sea level. inst in the northeast of the Quercy. The nearest town, Figeac, is about 15 km ( driving distance ) away in a southwesterly direction. The nearest major town Maur is located about seven kilometers north-east.

Demographics

History

For the high Middle Ages, the existence of a priory is assumed, which should have been placed under the Abbey of Aurillac. The Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) and the Wars of Religion (1562-1598) destroyed the enclosure building and the church continued to be used as a parish church.

Attractions

  • The Parish Church ( Église Saint- Pierre ) is a three-aisled building of the 12th and 13th century, whose nave was, however, together with its restrained façade designed portal thoroughly revised in the 16th and 17th centuries.
  • The three-arched bridge over the Cele dates back to the 13th/14th. Century. Her three segmental arches are hardly sharpened noticeably at the apex.
