Bagnères-de-Bigorre

Bagneres -de- Bigorre is a commune and resort in the Hautes -Pyrénées in the Midi -Pyrénées region in the central Pyrenees. It is the seat of a sub-prefecture and counts 7906 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

Geography

Bagneres -de- Bigorre is located in the center at an altitude of 558 m, the highest elevation on the 125.86 km ² large municipality is 2,872 meters high. The town lies on the River Adour. Nearby is the well-known resort of La Mongie. Neighboring towns are in the north of Tarbes in the south Campan. The well-known place of pilgrimage Lourdes is located about 20 kilometers to the west.

In Bagneres- de -Bigorre, there is a marble museum, which has emerged from the private collection of Jacques Dubarry de Lassale. It shows rare marbles and limestones from the French Pyrenees, other parts of France and other European countries for decorative purposes (furniture, fireplaces, baths) were applied. In the collection there are varieties that once possessed a great artistic, cultural and historical significance and are now almost unbeschaffbar.
