Banská Bystrica Region

The Banskobystrický kraj ( Banská Bystrica Region Association ) is a geographical region in central Slovakia. The area is spatially identical to the Municipal District of Banská Bystrica.

Geography

The Banskobystrický kraj has an area of ​​9454 km ², making it the largest district in terms of area ( sl. kraj ). He has 660 128 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and is situated in central Slovakia. The landscape is mostly mountainous and is dominated by the Western Carpathians and different valleys; the height decreases from north to south. In the north, the Great Fatra and Low Tatras are; the boiler landscape below these mountains is called Horehronie (about: Horehronie ). In the western parts are the Kremnitz mountains, the mountains and the birds Selmec mountains. In the center are the mountains Krupinská planina, Javorie, Polana and the boiler Zvolenska kotlina. From around the town Detva to the east, the rich old mining towns Slovak Ore Mountains pervades with its subdivisions (eg Muránska planina or Spišsko - Gemerský kras ) the area. In the south are both the long southern Slovakian boiler and the mountains Cerová highlands along the Hungarian border. Larger rivers are the Hron in the northern half and Ipeľ in the center and south; other rivers are the Slatina, Krupinica, Rimava and a small part of the Slaná. The highest mountain is the Dumbier in the Low Tatras ( 2046 m nm); the lowest point is on the river at Štiavnica Dudince (135 m nm).

Three National Parks are located entirely or partially in Banskobystrický kraj: Low Tatras ( NAPANT, Low Tatras ) and Muránska planina ( Murano plateau ). The population density is 69/km ², significantly lower than the Slovak average ( 110/km ²). The registered unemployment rate in 2011 was 19.83 % (national average: 13.59% ); particularly high she was in southern Okresy as Rimavská Sobota ( 34.59 %) or Revúca ( 30.79 %).
