Beaumont (automobile)

Beaumont was a car brand of General Motors, which existed from 1966 to 1969. This was only available on the Canadian market and offered vehicles of the middle class.

History

The Beaumont was born from the Acadian Beaumont of model years 1964 and 1965 and was based on the contemporary Chevrolet Chevelle. He had the body of the Chevelle, but it was provided with slightly different design elements, such as other rear lights and a split by Pontiac style grille. Inside, the instrument panel of the Pontiac -US models Tempest / LeMans / GTO was built.

From 1966, the name Acadian and Beaumont accounted became an independent brand that was still being sold by the Canadian Pontiac and Buick dealers. The cars had a new emblem, which was based on the arrow head symbol of Pontiac, but in addition showed two red maple leaves. They had the same engines as the Chevelle, the OHV six and various V8 Small and Big Block. The V8 small block was available with 4638 cc, 5359 cc, and later 5735 cc displacement, the Mark IV big- block with 6,489 cc displacement. There was a manual transmission with 3 or 4 courses and automatic 2 -stage or 3-stage Powerglide Hydramatic. The Beaumont was built in Chile ( Arica at the factory ) and at times also sold in Puerto Rico.

The SD models ( Sport Deluxe ) met the Supersport models of Chevelle and had individual front seats and a center console and side stripes and chrome special features. The SD396 models ( Displacement 396 ci. = 6489 cm ³) are the most sought after Beaumont today. Only a few were built and most rusted in the harsh Canadian winter air away, so these models are significantly less than the corresponding Chevelle and sought after by certain collectors. The SD series, there was a two-door hardtop coupe or two-door convertible. In addition to the SD series, there was the Beaumont also known as Custom and Deluxe.

The Beaumont was built to model in 1969 and then replaced in the Canadian market by the Pontiac LeMans.
