History

The inventor of the GTO was John DeLorean, the former chief engineer of Pontiac.

Already the first GTO version had the biggest engine, the Pontiac at this time could put them in a full size car: a V8 engine with 6,379 cc ( 389 cin ). The body line followed from 1966 to the so-called Coke Bottle Design.

1967 GTO was equipped with a 6,560 - cc engine (400 cui ) and reached in the equipment Hi-Performance or Ram - Air 360 261 kW ( 354.86 hp).

The end of 2003 came a new GTO based on the Holden Monaro, on the American market. Standard engine was the beginning of the Chevrolet LS1 V8 from 2005 was the new LS2 V8 available. New for 2005 were also functional Hood Scoops (albeit not a Ram Air System), optional 18 -inch wheels and a spoiler package.

The earlier models of the GTO were mainly intended for quarter-mile race, the new models, however, have also been successfully used in the popular drift racing.
