Pontiac G8 ( 2008-2009)

The G8 is a sports sedan by 2010 General Motors belonging to former car manufacturer Pontiac. After the bankruptcy of GM in 2009 and the restructuring of the model program, the Pontiac brand was discontinued at the end of 2010.

The G8 was largely identical to the same old model generation of the Holden Commodore, and was therefore made ​​in Australia, but sold exclusively in North America.

The sports car was the beginning of 2008 ( Canada 2009) introduced as a four-door sedan and is a model of the upper middle class ( full-size car ). One also originally planned wagon version was rejected again.

History

The G8 is based on the new Zeta platform (global rear wheel drive) of GM and thus has rear wheel drive. It is available also as a G8 GT and G8 GXP. Base engine is a 3.6 -liter V6 with 191 kW and a 5 - speed automatic. The GT accelerates thanks to the 269 kW 6 -liter V8 engine with 6 -speed automatic in just under 5 seconds from 0 to 60 mph ( 0-96 km / h). All models are fitted as standard with six airbags, traction control, ESP and 18 -inch alloy wheels. Prices start at 26,910 dollars ( 19,000 euros ) for the basic model with a V6 engine, with 29 310 U.S. dollars ( 20,600 euros ) for the GT version, or at 37 610 U.S. dollars ( 26,500 euros ) for the G8 GXP.

In addition to the sedan was introduced a rating based on the Holden Ute two-seat pickup version in March 2008 at the New York International Auto Show. The G8 ST ( Sport Truck ), which was planned for 2010, Pontiac's first pickup truck, and GM's first coupe utility in North America should be considered since the 1987 set Chevrolet El Camino.

In January 2009, Pontiac announced its dealers that the G8 ST will not be introduced due to budget cuts and restructuring in GM.
