Bella, Basilicata

Bella is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5193 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Potenza, in the Basilicata. The municipality is situated approximately 26 kilometers north- west of Potenza. At the southern part of the municipality of Picerno forms a natural border.

Castello di Bella

The local picture dominant Castello di Bella was built in 1008. 1567 has been greatly enhanced by Agostino di Melfi Rondone, 1694 destroyed by an earthquake and rebuilt then. The castle was then in the 18th century in the possession of the noble family Ruffo di Calabria. In 1923 she was bought by the municipality and used as the headquarters of the local school until she was once again in 1980 after an earthquake that destroyed 80 % of the building stock in Bella in ruins. The building was rebuilt in seven years of construction by the architect Nicola Pagliara, which connect the few remaining remnants of the old castle with modern buildings.

Traffic

Through the district of Bella- Muro lead the Strada Statale 7 Appia and the railway line Battipaglia - Potenza - Metaponto. Here there is also a train station.
