Paterno, Basilicata

Paterno is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3420 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Potenza, in the Basilicata. The community is located about 29.5 kilometers southwest of Potenza on Agri and directly borders the province of Salerno.

History

By 1973, Paterno was a district of the neighboring municipality of Marsico Nuovo. Paterno was probably after the destruction of the city Grumentum by the former inhabitants of the city. In 1857, the town was struck by a violent earthquake.
