Belmonte del Sannio

Belmonte del Sannio is a village with 809 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the southern Italian region of Molise. Belmonte is located in the province of Isernia in the Alto Molise. Located in the eastern part of the region, Belmonte is the last place before the immediately adjacent region of Abruzzo.

Geography

The terrain around Belmonte around is very mountainous and rocky. The establishment of the village is difficult to trace, why Belmonte only appears mid-16th century in the history books as the Baron Santobuono had retired with his family in the hidden place for fear of looters. He built his palace baronale on the highest point of the village. Even today, perched on the Palazzo Piazza Risorgimento in the center of the village. It has 39 rooms and a 12 meter long hall used for various events.

Attractions

The village also offers a number of attractions. One can think the two churches of S. Salvatore and S. Rocco, a plaque dedicated to the fallen of World War II, an observation tower of the Lombards, and a statue of St. Padre Pio as well as an ancient limestone tomb of the warrior Pakis Uviis.

The area around Belmonte is one of the richest regions in Southern Italy truffle. In the summer months the place is the meeting place of many truffle tourists from around the world who will appreciate the idyllic tranquility and the Italian hospitality of the place.
