San Pietro Avellana

San Pietro Avellana is a municipality ( comune ) Italian province of Isernia in Molise Apennines with 519 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012). The community is located about 21.5 kilometers north-northwest of Isernia in the Sangro and borders the province of L' Aquila ( Abruzzo ).

History

The present town was founded in the 10th century by the Benedictine monk Dominic of Sora.

Passing through the municipality, Main Road 652 Fondo Valle di Sangro of Cerro al Volturno after Fossacesia. The San Pietro Avellana - Capracotta railway station is on the railway line Sulmona, Isernia.
