Berehomet

Berehomet (Ukrainian Берегомет; German Berhometh [ at Sereth ]; romanian Berhomete pe Siret; Russian Берегомет / Beregomet ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ukrainian Chernivtsi Oblast. It is located south of the city Wyschnyzja on Sereth, about 47 km south-west of Czernowitz in the northern Bukovina. Administratively part of the settlement community and the village Saritschtschja.

History

The settlement was mentioned in writing in the 17th century for the first time and then belonged to 1775 the Principality of Moldavia.

After 1774, the Bukovina towards the end of the Russo- Ottoman War ( 1768-1774 ) had been occupied by neutral Austria, this was confirmed in the 1775 Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca, officially known as much for Austria " intermediary services " between the warring parties. This Berhometh was a part of Austria first in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, 1849 in the newly formed Duchy of crown land Bukovina.

On November 30, 1886, the city was connected to the railway network by the construction of the local railway Hliboka - Berhometh the Siret (owned by the Bukovina local railways ). Mid-19th century it came to the settlement of German settlers in the existing settlement, but they left during the population exchange in 1940 (see Bukovina German ) the place. More important for the town was the large Jewish population, but the largest percentage of residents presented then as now, the Hutsul.

The village belonged to the noble family of the highly Fideikommiss Wassilko of Serecki. Your castle was burned down in 1915 by Russian troops and never rebuilt.

After the annexation of Bukovina to the Kingdom of Romania on 27 November 1918, the town belonged to the then District Storojineţ. As part of the allowed by the Hitler -Stalin Pact annexation of Northern Bukovina on June 28, 1940, he was part of the Soviet Union ( 1941-1944 intervening turn to Romania) and is since 1991 a part of the Ukraine. In 1963 she was elevated to the urban-type settlement and introduced after 1945 an important center of Ukrainian forestry dar.
