The S-Bahn station Sun Avenue is a stop on the Berlin S-Bahn in the Neukölln district (Bezirk Neukölln) of Berlin. It is located at kilometer 16.7 of the Berlin ring road south of the railway overpass the sun Avenue. Throughout history, the S-Bahn station was renamed several times.

Location and construction

The 1912 -built station building is situated on the Saale River Road in the east of Neukölln. The 160 meter long platform is almost completely covered and has outputs on both sides of the sun Avenue.

The station has an elevator system and aids for the blind and is thus equipped for the handicapped. The facility is registered as a historic landmark in the Berlin state monument list.

History

The station was opened on 1 October 1912 as the third station on the Neukölln area under the name Kaiser- Friedrich-Strasse (after Friedrich III. , "99 -Day emperor " of 1888). The design of the reception building was by Reinhold Kiehl. The station was used for the development of Köllnischen meadows that were built at that time. After the "Great electrification " of the station from 6 November 1928, operated by electric motor coaches of the " city rapid transit " from which in 1930 the S- Bahn Berlin emerged.

As of October 1939 was the station Braunauer road after starting in May 1938, the whole nearly five -kilometer stretch of road from Kaiser- Friedrich-Straße ( north ) and Sun Avenue ( south ) was named after the birthplace of Adolf Hitler. During the Battle of Berlin in April 1945, the rail traffic came to a standstill and was only resumed on June 18, 1945. Later, the German Reichsbahn renamed the station in Sun Avenue; the street itself was given this name on 31 July 1947.

With the construction of the Wall on 13 August 1961 the circle line between the sun and Treptower Park Avenue was interrupted. The trains on the East Berlin side were without exception continue to the Görlitz line, whereas sun avenue was together with the situated on the junction line Baumschulenweg -Neukölln S-Bahn station Köllnische heath to the southeastern terminus of the ring rail trains in West Berlin. The tracks north of the station past used the trains future for sweeping.

The kingdom workers strike of the S- Bahn services in West Berlin was born on September 18, 1980 to a standstill. The circle line was shut down in addition to other routes. 1989 began the reconstruction work at the track, first the reception building was renovated on behalf of the administration of former Reichsbahn assets for 1.7 million D-Mark. By shortly after entering opening of the borders to East Berlin 's plans were corrected and the connection of the ring rail to the Görlitz line on Köllnische heath preferred over Sun Avenue. The re-commissioning of the section between Neukölln and Treptow Park was also delayed by the plans for continued construction of the motorway A 100. Then took place on 18 December 1997, the re-commissioning of approximately 3.4 km long section including the S-Bahn station Sun Avenue. For better access to the bus station received a second output on both sides of the sun avenue and a lift for disabled access.

Connection

At this station there is a transfer possibilities to ring railway lines S41 and S42 to the bus lines M41 and 171 of the Berlin Transport Authority. Until May 2, 1965 there was a further interchange with former tram line 95
