The 200 years man is a future - drama from 1999, based on the story The Bicentennial of Isaac Asimov. The film was released in Germany on March 9, 2000.
Action
In 2005, every family will have their own androids to execution of any household chores. So the Martin family, whose youngest daughter Amanda provides the idea for the name Andrew (based on the concept of Android ). After presentation of the robot laws of Android begins with his duties. The Martins react quite differently to Andrew. While the mother and the older daughter refuse him, he developed into Amanda, who he likes to call only "Little Miss ", a deep relationship. She eventually falls in love even in him, but what he does not recognize, and eventually marries another man.
Over time Andrew developed artistic ability and is believed human traits. This development is dismissed by many people as ridiculous, but taken very seriously by its owner Richard Martin. It helps the robot, against the manufacturer to enforce its rights, but later very disappointed when Andrew asks him to " buy out " to be allowed. Andrew will continue to be with the family, but his urge for individual freedom is so great that he falls out with Richard and builds a house in the neighborhood. Only shortly before his death, the aged patriarch asks him to come and reconciled himself with him.
Andrew now decides to go out into the world. Looking for android its series with similar skills, he meets the robot specialists Rupert Burns, the son of his own designer. This helps him to create, among other things with artificial body parts a human appearance, their resale makes them both very rich men. Then Andrew returns to the Martins, where he finds an aged Amanda and fell in love with her granddaughter Portia. This reciprocates his feelings and the two start a long, but not recognized by the government relationship.

However, the Chairman explained that one of the essential features of a man is his mortality; as Andrew but could theoretically live forever, this definition does not apply to him. Portia tells him that she did not intend to prolong their life with its artificial organs, whereupon Andrew his body changed so that a natural process of aging begins. In 2205 he finally dies at age 200 years at Portia's side, a few seconds before the World Parliament recognizes his humanity and he enters as the oldest person who has ever lived in the history.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on movie- reviews.colossus.net, the director Chris Columbus could have done from the topic. He derided the film as " recycled Star Trek ". Berardinelli gave the director before like " sentimentality " and tampering with the feelings of the audience, as in his earlier films, Mrs. Doubtfire and side by side.

In the office buildings of the company NorthAm Robotics shown in the film is in fact the headquarters of Oracle Corporation in Redwood Shores, United States.
One of the futuristic vehicles, the GM Ultralite of 1992, which was also used in the movie Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone in different versions.
