Blood, Sweat & Tears

Blood (,) Sweat & Tears is an American jazz-rock band that was founded in New York in 1967. The name of the band goes back to a quote from the inaugural speech by Winston Churchill as British Prime Minister in 1940 at the beginning of World War II.

History

The group, which was initially led by Al Kooper, in 1967 their first appearance at New York's Cafe Au Go Go opened for Moby Grape. The audience was thrilled by the new fusion of jazz, blues and rock music. The original band consisted of Al Kooper (keyboards, vocals), Jim Fielder (guitar, bass), Steve Katz ( guitar) and Bobby Colomby (drums ) and horn section, Fred Lipsius, Randy Brecker, Jerry Weiss and Dick Halligan.

The first album Child is Father to the Man (1968 ) was highly praised, but sold sluggishly. According to human differences initially Kooper, then Brecker and White left the band. Colomby and Katz recruited the Canadian David Clayton -Thomas as a singer.

The second album Blood, Sweat & Tears (1969 ) was combined with 3.8 million copies sold, also a commercial success, winning a Grammy in 1970 as the album of the year. The horn arrangements and arrangements of themes of classical composers ( such as Erik Satie ) set standards for other groups of jazz and Brassrock. It went to # 1 on the Billboard 200, the out-coupled from the album Single Spinning Wheel reached number 2

A sponsored by the U.S. State Department tour of Eastern Europe brought the band in hippie and rock audience into disrepute. The published after this tour album Blood, Sweat & Tears 3 (1970 ) was unable to repeat the success of its predecessor, but still space in the U.S. reached a first appearance in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas was not to improve the image of the band at. The fourth album Blood, Sweat & Tears 4 (1971 ) could not measure up to the two previous commercial. Singer David Clayton -Thomas left the band and was replaced by Jerry Fisher.

There was then quite a few line-up changes, but the desired success was in spite of experienced musicians. Finally returned after a few more albums - Greatest Hits (1972 ), New Blood ( 1972), No Sweat (1973) and Mirror Image (1974 ) - the soloist remained luckless singer David Clayton -Thomas back. However, a commercial comeback did not last long. After the plates New City (1975 ), In Concert (1976) and More than Ever (1976 ) announced the record company the contract. The last album Brand New Day (1977) and Nuclear Blues ( 1980) were hardly noticed. Of the members of the first albums only David Clayton Thomas was at this time there. At various reunion attempts in the late 1980s and early 90s rallied a new young band around Clayton -Thomas, but just could not go on past successes.

In 2005, Chuck received Negron, former lead singer of Three Dog Night, the rights to the band name "Blood, Sweat & Tears". This complete new formation in 2007 played in some open-air concerts in Europe.

Since 2008, Steve Katz is back in the band.

" The Beatles have brought the rock to the music. Blood, Sweat & Tears have brought the music to the rock. "
