Bo Johansson

Bo " Bosse " Johansson ( born November 28, 1942) is a Swedish football coach. He was in charge during the course of his career several club teams and national teams in various European countries.

Career

Successful as a coach in Sweden and first stay abroad

After a playing career in the Swedish League unterklassigen area at Kalmar FF Johansson began in 1973 as the successor of Lars Arnesson his coaching career. He then took over as player-coach the men's team of the fourth division Lindsdals IF, which he led to the third tier in 1974. After two fourth places in the table, he returned to Kalmar FF. By now ascended into the Allsvenskan club he reached the end of the season 1977 the third place, in the following season in fourth place. Then, the reigning champion Östers IF it began recruiting. There he inherited again Lars Arnesson, who had been appointed coach of the Swedish national team. After two seats in the front third of the table, he took the club to its first title wins. The team around Andreas and Thomas Ravelli, Karl- Gunnar Björklund, Peter Nilsson and Teitur Þórðarson caught up in the seasons 1980 and 1981 respectively against Malmö FF and IFK Gothenburg respectively the von Rosen's Cup for the Swedish championship title.

Despite the success Johansson wanted to look for a new challenge and returned again back to Kalmar FF. The club had held in the previous season in the relegation games in class, missed the team in the 1982 season there against Gefle IF the league. As Season winner in the second division, he qualified the club for the promotion round and managed against Djurgårdens IF the direct return to the Swedish House of Lords. Again he left at the moment of success, a club and took his first international office, when he took over the Norwegian second division side FK Jerv. After a table space in the middle of the club was in the 1985 season in a relegation battle, but came in last non- relegation.

Johansson returned before the season 1986 back to Sweden. Again Coach of Östers IF he led the team to Hans Eklund, Peter Truedsson, Jari Europaeus and Ulrik Jansson in his second year in the championship finals, where they failed after two defeats at Malmö FF in the semifinals.

Years abroad and as a coach at European and World Championship finals

In the summer of 1988 he moved Johansson abroad again. In the middle of the season in Sweden he left Östers IF - at the end of the season the club got off to the second division - and joined the Greek club Panionios Athens. With the team to Thomas Mavros, Theo Papadopoulos, Theodoros Zakkas and Stelios Aposporis he moved into the final of the National Cup. In early 1990, Johansson took over for the first time a coach office. After a year in Finland Johansson returned to Denmark and took over in the summer of 1996, the Danish national team. With a goal by Ole Bjur he also designed here his debut successful, the Swedish national team was beaten in Gothenburg with a 1-0 away win. After the European champions had missed from 1992 Qualifying for the 1994 World Cup and failed at the European Championships in 1996 in the group stage, he led the national team with more offensive style of play as group winners qualifying for the World Cup finals appearance in 1998. As a group second behind France, the team moved into the second round, in which Nigeria was beaten clearly with a 4-1 win. In a tight match against eventual finalists Brazil Michael and Brian Laudrup, Thomas Helveg, Peter Schmeichel and the other teammates were defeated in the quarter-finals with a 2:3 defeat. In the qualifying round for EURO 2000, the team was no longer as confident as before, but behind Italy reached the second place in the qualifying group. In the play- off matches of the group runners-up the team, however, Israel dominated 5-0 - 3-0 victories respectively. Even in 1999 it was announced that Morten Olsen Bo Johansson, who announced that he represents his post after the tournament is available, will replace. Johansson 2003, he returned as head coach of IFK Gothenburg on the bench back.
