Boyan Radev

Bojan Alexandrov Radev ( Bulgarian Боян Радев; born February 25, 1942 in Moschino, Oblast Pernik ) is a former Bulgarian wrestler and patron of the arts.

Career

Bojan Radev was discovered as a teenager at school sports, as a talent scout of the Bulgarian wrestler Association became aware of his strength and his strong sense of movement. With 20 years of 1.76 m great athlete weighed about 97 kg, and was ripe for international assignments. He was a member of Levski Spartak Sofia, his coach was Slavo Slawow. He wrestled exclusively in the Greco- Roman style. As an Army veteran, he was exempted from normal service and could devote himself fully to the rings.

At the first World Cup, in which he participated, he won in Toledo / USA an excellent second place in the heavyweight division. Only the Georgian veteran Rostom Abashidze prevented by a draw and a slightly better points ratio of the preliminaries victory Bojans.

1963 was not quite as good, because the Swede Per Svensson defeated him. This had to Bojan Radev to make do with fifth place.

1964 and 1968 were then his great years. He was Olympic champion in both years. In Tokyo in 1964 and 1968 in Mexico City. Particularly noteworthy was the fact that in 1968 before Nikolai Yakovenko, the Soviet champion wrestler won.

In 1965 he came because of two draws against Ferenc Kiss from Hungary and Valery Anisimov from the USSR again only to fifth place.

1966 and 1967 but it will return excellent results. In 1966 he was World Champion, with him this time two draws in the decisive battles against Anisimov and Martinescu Nicolae from Romania, to win the title submitted. 1967, however, he failed to Martinescu and Yakovenko and was runner-up.

After his career as an active wrestler Bojan Radev was coach. For his contributions to the sport wrestler he was taken in September 2009 in the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.
