Brand (Vorarlberg)

Fire is a municipality in the district of Bludenz in Vorarlberg, Austria with 684 inhabitants ( 31 December 2013 ).

Geography

Brand can be found in the Brandner Valley, part of the Austrian Rätikon, 1,037 meters above sea level at the Alvier. 28.7 percent of the area is forested, alpine 20.6 percent of the area. There are no other local villages on fire.

History

In the 14th century it came to the settlement of twelve Walser families in the occupied previously by Nenzing of summer farming high valley. 1347, the village was first mentioned in records. Initially, the community fire brush was attached and had to pay a rent once a year. It was not until 1727 there was a separate parish in fire, in the time by about 200 people.

The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing from Tyrol and the Austrian front Freiburg im Breisgau. From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria.

Since the mid-19th century came in place increasingly on tourism. From 1951 to various mountain railways and ski lifts were built - most recently in 2010 the Palüdbahn as a replacement for the old chair lift in the form of a gondola.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 12 members. Mayor Erich Schedler of the Free electoral roll fire. He was elected to the direct election with 70.76 percent of the vote as the only standing for election candidate.

The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 1,158,209, the municipal expenditure at € 1,892,196. The debt was 2001 2.934.353 €.

Economy and infrastructure

At the site there were in 2003 27 companies in the industrial sector with 291 employees and 24 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 388 tourism and tourism are important. In the tourism year 2001/2002 there were a total of 212 248 overnight stays.

The local ski resort was a few years ago through the merger with the ski area in the neighboring village of Bürserberg a significant appreciation. For the summer tourism especially the Luenersee up the valley is interesting.

There is also a training hill system, which is today but forfeited.

Education

In fire there is a kindergarten, and (as of January 2003) 38 students.
