Sankt Anton im Montafon

Sankt Anton im Montafon is a municipality in the district of Bludenz in Vorarlberg, Austria with 742 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2013 ).

Geography

Sankt Anton im Montafon is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, the district of Bludenz. St. Anton is located at the entrance of the Montafon valley, which is nestled between the Rhätikonmassiv and the Davennastock ( Verwallgruppe ). 52.9 percent of the area is forested.

There is only the cadastral St. Anton.

History

The town was founded in the time of Erzbergbaues on Kristbergbahn and in Bartholomäberg and was first mentioned in 1412. St. Anton in 1419 had its chapel and a chaplain. The chapel said to have been built by a noble of Zalans 1376.

From Saint Anthony the Great ( Antonius the Hermit ), the little village that had once " Prazalanz " was told his name.

The place has long been one Bludenz, until he was an independent municipality in 1776. Sankt Anton was governed like all places in Vorarlberg by the Habsburgs changing of Tyrol and Further Austria ( Freiburg im Breisgau) from. From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria. For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Sankt Anton im Montafon heard since the foundation in 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria. In 1947, the congregation amalgamating with Vandans that existed since 1943, canceled. Until the 20th century was mined in St. Anton plaster. The first evidence to date back to the early 18th century. The reduction lasted until 1977, when it no further concession was granted more.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was designed by Konrad Honold. There is a church and the two crossed papal keys and is crowned by a topsy-turvy triple mount. This refers to the tradition of the landslide, is said to have buried the fabled village Prazalanz.
