Bruce Forman

Bruce Forman ( born May 14, 1956 in Springfield, Massachusetts) is an American jazz guitarist who pass tradition is considered as a stylist of mainstream jazz in the Jim Hall / Herb Ellis / Joe.

Life and work

Forman first learned piano around 1970 to switch to guitar. In 1971 he moved to San Francisco. He studied with Jackie King at the Poly Tech High School and started in the Bay Area with their own groups to work; He also appeared regularly at the Monterey Jazz Festival. In 1972 he giggte in New York with Roland Hanna and Sam Jones. From 1978 to 1982 he played with Richie Cole. From the early 1980s he began recording albums under his own name, including with Bobby Hutcherson ( There Are Times, 1986), Billy Childs and Eddie Marshall; 1985 originated with George Cables Album Dynamics at Concord Jazz. His most successful production was in 1992 Forman on the Job with which he reached # 14 on the Billboard Top Jazz Album charts. Forman also played with Eddie Jefferson, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Farrell, Tom Harrell, Mark Murphy and Grover Washington Jr.. He also took with Jimmy Knepper (1st Place, 1982), Ray Brown ( Some of My Best Friends Are Guitarists ) and Charlie Shoemake on. With the band Cow Bop, he played a mixture of modern jazz and western swing.

Forman taught at various high schools and universities, including the University of North Carolina, the University of California, Berkeley and the University of North Texas. In 2000, he founded the organization Jazz Masters Workshop, which has been carried out more than 1500 workshops for young musicians in the United States.
