Bryan McCabe

Bryan T. McCabe ( born June 8, 1975 in St. Catharines, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who during his active career, among others, for the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and New York Rangers played in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender.

Career

McCabe, who had previously played in several junior leagues and Canadian junior national team, his NHL career with the New York Islanders, who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1993. In the 1997/98 season he moved to the Vancouver Canucks. After a short stint at the Chicago Blackhawks, he came in 2000 to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he played until 2008. In the season 2003/ 04 he finished fourth in the James Norris Memorial Trophy rating for the best defenders in the league. As the NHL season 2004/ 05 fell victim to a lockout, he completed some games for the Swedish Elitserien club HV 71 Jönköping.

The 2005/06 season in which he ran aground again for the Maple Leafs, was his best to date. With 68 points in 73 games, he was one of the best defenders and surpassed his own record from 2003 /04 ( 53 points in 75 games). Following this, he received a five-year contract with a clause stating that he could be transferred only with his consent. In the 2006/07 season he played in all 82 games of the season the Leafs and made it 57 points. The following year, he had bad luck with injuries and only came to 54 games and 23 points. Especially after the end of the season there were numerous rumors about possible transfer transactions to the McCabe should be involved, but it was only in September 2008, one has been completed, as McCabe and a draft pick to the Maple Leafs for Mike Van Ryn to the Florida Panthers have been made. In Florida, the defender was always referred to in the following three seasons as a regular force and had in September 2009 held the position of team captain before McCabe in February 2011 just before the trade deadline in a transfer business in exchange for Tim Kennedy and a third-round vote in the NHL was issued in 2011 Entry Draft to the New York Rangers. After the 2010/11 season, the Canadian became a free agent and ended his playing career.

Internationally

At the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin McCabe was actually intended as a reserve player, but moved in for the injured Ed Jovanovski in the basic formation of Canada on.
