History

The colonization of places Burgauberg and Neudauberg as well as some other places in the area was carried out by the adjacent Styrian towns. Mainly attracted people from Burgau and Neudau in the land under vineyards hills. With this historical background Burgau mountain is still a scattered settlement today.

For years, the membership has jurisdiction over the villages was not clearly defined. One challenge was also to find the boundary between Austria and Hungary, which was then the Lafnitzfluss; it was considered a border along the hills. The people themselves had a closer relationship with the Styrian border communities: The Church of Burgau Berger is still the Neudau, yet also factors such as kinship and common activities were added in Burgau and the Neudauberger. The transnational Volunteer Fire Burgau Burgau mountain ( founded in 1875 ) is an example of the binding of the " Steira " (in particular dialect term for inhabitants of Burgau and Neudau ) and the " Bergla " ( especially residents of Burgauberg and Neudauberg ). 1795, the villages of Burgau and mountain Neudauberg were self-employed.

The places were like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, the Hungarian place names Burgóhegy and Magashegy had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest.

After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. After the conquest of Burgenland by the Austrian gendarmerie on 28-29. August 1921 there were, among others, in Burgauberg to fights with Hungarian irregulars. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

During the Nazi period 1938-1945 the communities Burgauberg and Neudauberg were a part of Styria ( circle Fürstenfeld ). By the end of World War II (in Europe), there was a four-week position battle in Burgau mountain, the Soviets tried to secure the transitions to Styria and leave the Güssinger hills behind.

In January 1971, the municipality of Burgau -Neudauberg formed in its present form. In the past, the poor people were located in Burgau mountain and Neudauberg because the soils were less fertile ( no stranding of humus material from streams ) and the hills fields were due to the slope difficult to order. Today that is no longer so, the wealthier population settles on the quiet hills.
