Cantonal Council of Solothurn

The cantonal parliament is the parliament of the canton of Solothurn. It meets in the town hall of Solothurn and is the supreme legislative and supervising authority of the canton. Its 100 members are elected by proportional representation for four years. It adopts all the basic and important rules in the form of laws. The Parliament is a year usually to seven sessions, which take place each year in January, March, May, June, August, November and December. Tasks

Members

Eligibility

According to the prescribed by the solothurn cantonal constitution separation of powers open to members of the Cantonal not simultaneously be members of the Governing Council or the High Court. Civil servants and employees of the cantonal administration and courts are excluded from membership in the Cantonal. The term of office is set at four years.

Number and distribution of the constituencies

The cantonal parliament has 100 members who are elected according to a proportional system. The Government elections held in April 2013 three candidates from the Cantonal emerged victorious. They therefore resigned from the cantonal parliament. They are:

  • Remo Ankli (successor: Mark Winkler )
  • Roland Prince (successor: Dieter Leu)
  • Roland Home (successor: Urs Allemann )
  • Samuel Marti, however, resigned at his own request from the cantonal parliament. His successor, Hugo Schumacher, was sworn in on 27 August 2013.

At the end of January 2014 Roger Spichiger resigned from his post. He was succeeded by Markus Baumann.
