From the colonial period many villas even come with historically and architecturally significant buildings. The gardens of the Palace of Catete are very welcoming and provide people in the area a pleasant recreational area. Many apartments and houses from the colonial period were demolished at the expense of "modernity". The district was once one of the most prestigious neighborhoods, areas, this changed, however, with the transfer of the capital from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia.

Catete Palace

The history of the Palace do Catete has often been confused with the political history of Brazil. Far more than a privileged scenario of the most important events of the country, the palace has a peaceful character and is always present in the history of Brazil, since the days of the Emperor Dom Pedro II, until the transfer of the federal capital to Brasilia in 1960. From then on, it became the Museum of the Republic.
