Chrysler Royal (Australia)

The Australian Chrysler Royal is a car model that was built from 1957 to 1964 by Chrysler Australia.

AP1

The first version of the Royal, the AP1, was introduced in February 1957. It was developed from the U.S. Plymouth P25 of 1953, as the Plymouth Cranbrook, Dodge Kingsway and DeSoto Diplomat was also built by Chrysler Australia and sold. Plans, including the revised version under these three names for sale, were dropped back, so that the new model came only as a Chrysler Royal on the market, a name that was already used for a U.S. model of Chrysler (1937-1950).

The difference between the P25 and the Royal was the use of front and rear fenders in the way of the U.S. Plymouth models from 1956 and a larger rear window. The AP1 Royal there was only a 4- door sedan with two different Chrysler sv six-cylinder in-line engines - 3772 cc with manual transmission and 4107 cc with two-stage PowerFlite automatic. The Chrysler V8 engine with 5129 cc capacity was available during the production time of the model if desired.

AP2

A revised Royal, the AP2, was introduced in late 1958. The new series had a new grille and an unusual rear view with additional "saddle tail fins " on the previously existing tail fins.

AP3

The last version of the Royal was the AP3, which was introduced during the year 1960. The new series was easily arranged from its predecessors by its one above the other, square headlights and its triple tail lights - similar to those of DeSoto models from 1959 - to distinguish. Chrysler's new Torqueflite automatic transmission with three drive positions replaced the old, two-stage PowerFlite of AP2. In 1964, the production of the Royal has been set.
