Club Sol de América

Club Sol de América is a Paraguayan football club from Asunción. The club was founded in 1909 and plays its home matches at the Estadio Luis Alfonso Giagni, which can accommodate 5,000 spectators. Sol de América, which was twice Paraguayan football champion, currently plays in La Liga, the top division in Paraguay.

History

The Club Sol de América took a year after its founding, the game operation, in 1910 the newly established second division, the Segunda División de Paraguay and some rose to directly because it was the reserve team is not allowed by the Club Nacional ascend. In the two years after the Ascension, 1912 and 1913, the team was runner-up.

After that it took thirteen years to Sol de América again landed in the top three, which was in 1926 the first time the case. Significant former players and coaches

  • Justo Villar, the goalkeeper played a total of 119 games for the club. In 1997 and 1998 he was with the team each reach the final of the Torneo Apertura and defeated both times. In 1999 he left the club. In 2004 was elected to Paraguayan Footballer of the Year.
  • Ferenc Puskas: The Spaniard coached the team from 1985 to 1986 and changed during the championship season in 1986 Cerro Porteño.
  • Edgar Benítez: For the 2008 season, the striker was loaned and this season was one of the Torgaranten of the team. However, after only a year, he had to be discharged.

Basketball

Sol de América also has a basketball team based in the Primera División de Baloncesto de Paraguay plays and won numerous championships since 1982.
