Cogliate

Cogliate is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 8477 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy. The community is located about 16 kilometers northwest of Monza and about 20 kilometers north- west of Milan at the Parco delle Groane. Cogliate directly borders the provinces of Como and Varese. Through the village flows the Guisa, which unites with the Nirone to Merlata and then flows into the Olona.

History

An early settlement in the ancient world is possible, but not proven. On the grounds of the Benedictine monastery of San Dalmazio the place also gaining some importance, even if only of short duration.
