Col d'Izoard

View from the pass to the north

The Col d' Izoard is a 2361 meter high mountain pass in the French Alps, Hautes -Alpes.

The road connecting Briançon and the valley of the Guil. Traffic Technically, the pass has little importance, since the leading through the valley of the Durance alternative route is shorter and easier to expand.

From the north, the road that has a consistently marked bicycle lanes, through the valley of Cerveyette to the village of Saint Michel and further through an Alpine mountain valley. By entering the forest a serpentine- rich track that comes out just before the Refuge Napoleon from the forest and the last few meters overcomes in wide loops begins. On the south side of the Casse Déserte, " chopped desert ", a dry weathering landscape with scree and rock needles follows. The road overcomes with other serpentine the valley slopes to the village Brunissard and fall there with fairly steep gradients without major curves further. Near the village of Château- Queyras the road coincides with the coming of the Col Agnel route. Further down towards the gorge Guillestre is " Combe du Queyras " happens.

The pass was 34 times (as of February 2014) in the Tour de France program for the first time in 1922. Erstüberquerer in the Tour de France was Philippe Thys. The cycling history of the passport is dedicated to a small museum on the pass. The museum is usually closed since 2009.
