Collobrières

Collobrières is a commune with 1834 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var.

General

The production of Kastanienmus and candied marrons glaces called chestnuts, is a specialty of this area. Past machines for processing Maron can be seen in the museum is a confectionery (free admission). Specialty of this house is among other things an ice cream from chestnuts.

The processing of cork bark and the wine (Appellation Côtes de Provence) are also among the sources of income.

Another special feature is the possibility to pay with francs still in Collobrières.

Attractions

  • Chartreuse de la Verne: About 12 km to the east, the former Carthusian monastery is located in a secluded woodland setting. The major monasteries from the 12th to the 18th centuries are extensively restored. The winding and partly unpaved road is passable to the Charterhouse. Except Tuesdays, the plant can be visited.
  • Notre Dame des Anges: About 16 km to the north on the " Col de la Fourche ", 536 m high, to reach the chapel on the highest point of the Massif des Maures ( 779 m). In addition to the religious building located accommodation for pilgrims and a small cloister. The square in front of the chapel offers splendid panoramas.
  • Massif des Maures: The mountains are a much visited excursion landscape. A particularly beautiful road south leads to Le Lavandou with its charming beaches on the Mediterranean.
