Cologne Open

The ATP tournament from Cologne ( Cologne officially Cup or Cologne Open ) is a former men's tennis tournament, which was held once in 1992 in Cologne, Germany. It was played outdoors on sand. The event sparked the Geneva Open in Geneva, but already in the season 1993, the Cologne tournament was replaced by the tournament in Bucharest Tour calendar.

Already in the 1970s and 1980s, an international tennis tournament was held in Cologne, the Cologne Grand Prix ( Cologne Grand Prix). The winners of the event includes famous names like Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors. However, no player could win the individual competition more than once, in a double is the South African Frew McMillan with three wins record title holder. In contrast to the Tournament of the 90s the Cologne Grand Prix was held in the hall; the first two sweeps even on carpet, from 1978, then played on hard court.

In 2011, efforts were made to bring back an ATP tournament in Cologne. In RheinEnergieStadium a hard court tournament as preparation for the U.S. Open should occur, but the probability to put the plan into action, very low.
