Colombier, Haute-Saône

Colombier is a municipality in the French department of Haute- Saône in the Franche-Comté region.

Geography

Colombier is located at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, about 7 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in a hilly landscape in the Talniederung of Durgeon.

The area of ​​13.91 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the hill country between the basin of Vesoul and the level of Lure. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the valley of the Durgeon, which provides for drainage Saône. The creek flows here with several turns by a approximately one kilometer- wide flood plain, which is on average 225 m.

The valley is flanked on both sides by heights, which are broken by short Seitentälchen of Durgeon. To the southeast of the communal land extends over a steep slope up to the plateau of Montcey and on the Côte Rouge. With 375 m find the highest mountains of Colombier is achieved. History

The territory was inhabited in prehistoric times, of which traces of a settlement site testify at the height west of the village. In the Middle Ages Colombier belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had the Lords of Montaigu held that were directly under the free county. Your Castle was located on the edge east of the village. Attractions

The village church of Colombier was built in 1853 in the Gothic Revival style on the foundations of a previous medieval building ( 13th century). The village is characterized by different houses, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône, including a manor house dating from the 17th century. On the hill east of the village are the ruins of the medieval castle Montaigu. From an elevated position west of Colombier is the Château de la Roche, which was built in the 19th century. Population

With 433 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Colombier one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. Economy and infrastructure
