Come What ( ever) May is the second studio album by American rock band Stone Sour.
Genesis
Even during the tour to Slipknot's third studio album Vol 3: ( The Subliminal Verses ) was a singer Corey Taylor stated that Stone Sour would return with a second album. The work began in January 2006. As producer Nick Raskulinecz was confirmed.
Shortly before the recording drummer Joel Ekman left the band. He wanted to assist his son, in which a glioma was diagnosed. His successor was the former Soulfly drummer Roy Mayorga -. The album was recorded at Studio 606, which is owned by Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl. While most of the songs were still written on the eponymous debut album by Josh Rand and Corey Taylor, this time all members were cited as a songwriter.
The first single was coupled 30/30-150. The song was nominated performance in 2007 for a Grammy Award in the Best Metal category. However, the award went to Slayer Eyes of the Insane for. Single No. 2 was Through Glass, which is the only song to date, the made it into the German single charts ( number 95 ). As more singles Silly World, Made of Scars and Zzyzx Rd were released. To all singles with the exception of Zzyzx Rd and music videos were produced. Reborn was not released as a single, yet it gave the song a music video.
In 2006, the album in the U.S. and Canada were each awarded a gold record. In 2007, the album in the UK a silver record.
Reception
In Rock Hard wrote Wolf -Rüdiger Mühlmann that Stone Sour confidently go through different styles and the listener a potential single after the other would hit " the bags ". He also predicted that worldwide sales in the millions would be virtually certain. He forgave eight out of ten. In addition, it was named album of the month. Even with Metal Hammer has Come What ( ever) May album of the month. Looking back at 2006, it also was voted album of the year.
Andi said Althoff of metal1.info that Stone Sour have gained many new fans with this album, but also the old fans will have no cause for complaint. In particular, he praised Taylor's multifaceted vocal image. He forgave nine out of ten possible points. Commented Michael Edele of laut.de that some pieces for Slipknot fans, the so-called " Maggots ", and advised this would be worthless from buying the album from. Nevertheless, he said that Taylor would have the songs missed its very own charm, which he did not trust him. He therefore awarded four out of five stars.
