Connor Wickham (2009)
Connor Wickham (* March 31, 1993 in Hereford ) is an English footballer.
Wickham plays since summer 2011 the first division Sunderland AFC and is regarded as a beacon of hope in the storm of the English national team.

2002 Wickham began in the youth department of FC Reading with playing football. In 2006 he moved with his family to Colchester. There he played in the school team of Philip Morant School and in the youth teams of Ipswich Town. At the age of 12, he had offers from many top English clubs, but he refused all of them.
In the 2008 /09 season, he sniffed the first time in in the professional team that played in the Football League Championship, England's second league. He made his debut on April 11, 2009 ( 42 Matchday) in the game against Doncaster Rovers at the age of only 16 years and eleven days. He was the youngest player ever aground for Ipswich Town. His first goal in professional football, he scored in the League Cup match against Shrewsbury Town on 11 August 2009 At 3-3 in the first round he scored two goals. ; in the subsequent penalty shootout, the Ipswich 4-2 decided in his favor, he met a second time.
In the 2009/10 season Wickham was regularly used. In 26 missions he scored four goals; the first on 13 March 2010 for the 1-0 win in stoppage time against Scunthorpe United. After he scored three more goals in just four consecutive games in April 2010, he was elected this month to the best young player in the league. Also in the 2010/11 season he was an integral part of the team of coach Roy Keane and therefore moved further enhanced the interest of many English and European top teams in coming. So he scored on 15 February 2011 in the game against Doncaster Rovers three goals for a 6-0 final score. He and his team reached the semi-finals of the League Cup, where to but Arsenal had to admit defeat. This season Wickham won the Football League Young Player of the Year Award and the Championship Apprentice Award.
On 29 June 2011 Connor Wickham has signed a four year contract with the Premier League club Sunderland and moved for a transfer fee of nine million euros initially to Sunderland. So he decided not to offer higher -rated Premier League clubs to get better use of opportunities. On 20 July 2011, the second matchday of the 2011/12 season, he debuted at the 0-1 defeat against Newcastle United in the English top flight when he came off the bench just before the end of Sebastian Larsson. His first goal in the Premier League, he was able to achieve Villa in a 2-2 draw against Aston on October 29, 2011. Among other things, due to injuries he was often in his first two seasons on the bench and could not generate any more another goal in 28 games. Beginning in February 2013 he was loaned for one month to the second division club Sheffield Wednesday. In the short time he played six times in the Football League Championship and scored a goal. On February 26, 2014 he was awarded by the end of the 2013/14 season at Leeds United.
National
Wickham played for the U- 16 national team of England and won with the 2008 Victory Shield, an annual tournament between the U -16 national teams of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
For the U-17 national team, he scored in 13 games remarkable nine times. He could, for example, in the European Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan recorded within just 21 minutes three goals for themselves. In 2010 he participated with his team at the U-17 European Championship in Liechtenstein in which the British could win the title. With his two goals in the 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in the semi-finals and the winning goal to make it 2-1 in the final against Spain Wickham large proportion had that success and won the Golden Player award as the best player of the tournament. Because of its excellent performance has been discussed in England even over Wickham's possible participation in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. However, he was not nominated by national coach Fabio Capello.
On 16 November 2010 he made his debut for the U- 21 team in the game against Germany. In the U- 21 Championship 2011 in Denmark he was in the squad but did not play. In the following two years he often played in qualifying for the U-21 European Championship in 2013; the tournament itself, which took place in Israel in June 2013, he came in all three group games used.
