Coşkun Özarı

Coşkun Özarı ( born January 4, 1931 in Istanbul, † June 22, 2011 in Istanbul) was a Turkish football player and coach.

Playing career

Coşkun Özarı began twelve years playing football at Galatasaray Istanbul. He was employed as a central midfielder and as a right-back. During his time at Galatasaray, he won three championships and was five times elected to the Turkish national football team. He finished his career in 1960 with only 29 years.

Coaching career

Then Coşkun Özarı participated in seminars coach Walter Winterbottom, England. After returning to Turkey, he became a co- manager of Gündüz Kılıç at Galatasaray Istanbul. After that, he was in three terms head coach at Galatasaray, winning three league titles during this time. He was then appointed to the coaching reins of the Turkish national team, which he exercised over different time periods. His coaching career he finished in 1986 and has since worked as a sports journalist.

Long time kept Özarı as coach the record for most missions for the Turkish national football team until he was overtaken by his former player Fatih Terim. His record of 54 games as a head coach stands at 14 wins, 16 draws and 24 defeats.

Death

Özarı suffered on June 18, 2011, a brain hemorrhage and was admitted by his family in Istanbul's American Hospital, Nisantasi and died here four days later the consequences of cerebral hemorrhage. He suffered from unexplained incurable disease and was in poor health. He was buried two days after his death, after the midday prayers at the mosque in the cemetery Teşvikiye Zincirlikuyu.
