Cosmin Olăroiu

Aurelian Cosmin Olăroiu ( born June 10, 1969 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach. He played 119 games in Divizia A, the highest Romanian league. In 2006, he led Steaua Bucharest coach the Romanian championship. From May to June 2011, he coached the club again.

Career as a player

The career of Olăroiu began in 1989 when Gloria Buzău in Divizia B. After three more steps, he came in 1992 to Progresul Bucharest, which was ascended straight into the Divizia A, the highest Romanian league. Olăroiu gave his Erstligadebüt on 2 September 1992 in the away match against Rapid Bucharest and was able to assert itself in his first year as a regular player. With his team he managed in 1993 in the league and placed in the following two seasons in the midfield in the league, without being able to intervene in the battle for the European Cup places.

In 1995, the top club Universitatea Craiova Olăroiu took them under contract. The club finished the 1995/96 season in fourth and moved into the Intertoto Cup. He retired in the group stage against Karlsruher SC. In the following season the club dropped back into midfield. During the winter break Olăroiu Craiova left and moved to Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the South Korean K- League. There he won in 1998 and 1999, the South Korean Championships and reached the final of the Asian Cup Winners' Cup in 1998, where he, however, Al- Nasr defeated his team 0-1.

End of December 2000 decided Olăroiu, who still had a valid contract until the summer of 2001 players not to return from his holiday home to South Korea. Since he was allowed to begin for any other club, he finished his career then.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Olăroiu worked as a football coach. In January 2001 he was appointed as successor by Marius Lăcătuş head coach of his former club FC Naţional Bucharest. He took over the club in the relegation zone, and led him at the end of the 2000/01 season to a place in midfield. In the following season he continued his successful work and struggled with his team to the championship. One match left in the season the team was at the top of Divizia A, but lost in the last Universitatea Craiova season game and had to Dinamo Bucharest to defer.

After the season Olăroiu left the FC Naţional and switched to record champions Steaua Bucharest, where he became the successor of Victor Piţurcă. However, Steaua started with just nine points from seven games into the season 2002/ 03, which the club then decided again to separate from Olăroiu and retrieve Piţurcă. Shortly afterwards he returned to Naţional, where he was manager. In September 2003 he returned there as a successor to Walter Zenga to the dugout back when the club was again second to last place Divizia A after the fourth match day. By season's end, a placement jumped out in midfield.

During the winter break 2004/ 05 Olăroiu standing with his team in the top flight of the Divizia A, as the present in danger of relegation league rival FCU Politehnica Timişoara took him under contract. In the summer of 2007, Romania Olăroiu left and took over the Saudi Arabian club Al -Hilal. There he won the Saudi Arabian Championship in 2008 and missed the title defense a year later as a runner-up. In April 2009, it replaced Georges Leekens. Olăroiu then took over Qatari club Al -Sadd. End of 2010, his contract was terminated there.

May 5, 2011 Sorin Cârţu resigned as coach of Steaua Bucharest and Olăroiu replaced him for the final three games of the season 2010/11. On 25 May 2011 with Steaua he also won the final of the Cupa României 2010/11, before he signed early June 2011, a two -year contract with Al Ain Club in the United Arab Emirates. After expiration of the contract he took over in the summer of 2013 League rival al -Ahli.
