Cristiano Bergodi

Cristiano Bergodi ( born October 14, 1964 in Bracciano ) is a retired Italian footballer and current coach. He played a total of 220 games in Serie A and the Maltese Premier League. Most recently, he coached the Italian club Delfino Pescara 1936, for which he was already active as a player in the 1980s.

Career as a player

Bergodis career began in 1984 in Pescara Calcio in Serie B. After he rarely was used in the first two years, he was in the season 1986/87 for stem strength and rose with his club to Serie A. After relegation in 1988 he had to go back at the end of the 1988/89 season with his team. He then left Pescara and joined Lazio Rome. With Lazio he was able to place first in the middle of the Serie A. The season 1992/93 joined the club from fifth place and qualified for the UEFA Cup, where he was eliminated in the second round against Boavista Porto. In the 1994/95 season Bergodi again played in the UEFA Cup and reached the quarter-finals.

In 1996 Bergodi left Rome after he had beaten in the years only irregularly employed. He joined Calcio Padova in Serie B. With his new club two years later he dismounted in the Serie C1. After another descent into the C2 series he left in the summer of 1999 Padua and joined Sliema Wanderers in Malta. There he won in 2000 the Maltese Cup and ended his active career.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Bergodi worked as a football coach. After engagements at unterklassigen Italian clubs took him in November 2005 for FC Naţional Bucharest to Romania. As the successor of his compatriot Roberto Landi he missed the end of the season to qualify for the European Cup. In October 2006 he took over CFR Cluj, with whom he finished the season 2006/ 07 in third place, which meant qualification for the UEFA Cup. Despite this success, he was replaced by Ioan Andone. Bergodi was the start of the 2007/08 season head coach of Premier League rivals Rapid Bucharest, he had to leave in favor of Mircea Rednic in October 2007.

At the beginning of 2009 sparked Ionut Popa from Bergodi as manager of Politehnica Iaşi. He led the club at the end of the 2008/09 season to avoid relegation. After the season obliged him record champions Steaua Bucharest. After a confrontation with a patron George Becali he was dismissed again in September 2009. Bergodi returned to Italy and was in the summer of 2010, head coach of FC Modena in Serie B. After a placement in the midfield at the end of the 2010/11 season he was released in November 2011.

On November 20, 2012 Bergodi took over as coach at the first division Delfino Pescara 1936, after Giovanni Stroppa there had previously resigned. After the 0-1 home defeat to Udinese Calcio and the crash on the last place on March 3, 2013 Bergodi was released in Pescara.
