Cupressus sargentii

Cupressus sargentii is a plant belonging to the family of the cypress family ( Cupressaceae ). It is native to California.

Description

Cupressus sargentii grows as evergreen tree of stature heights of up to 25, but usually only reaches 10 meters. The rough, fibrous bark is furrowed. The open or dense crown is shaped more wide than tall or columnar. The 1.5 to 2.5 millimeters thick branches are decussate on the branches.

The leaves are scale-like shape. On the underside of leaves is an inconspicuous, mostly blue-green gland normally secretes no resin.

The male cones are 3-4 mm long and about 2 mm thick. They contain three to four pollen sacs. The cones are usually spherical shaped 2 to 2.5 inches in diameter. For ripening turns they are colored brown or gray. Each pin usually consists of six to eight scales on which there are few resin bubbles. The 4-6 mm long seeds are dark brown in color and have a weak to strong, blue-green tint on.
