Currency symbol

A currency symbol ( or currency signs ) is a special character that is used as a shorthand for a currency. It is written either after ( € 12.80 ) or before the amount ( $ 12.80 ). There is one or no space between the symbol and amount set ( language-dependent). In Portugal and France, the currency symbols were before the introduction of the euro also used as the decimal point in the sum (12 ₣ 80).

To avoid confusion, be currency symbols that apply to multiple currencies, together with letter abbreviations used ( for example, U.S. $, U.S. $).

In international payments abbreviations are according to ISO 4217 because of its uniqueness preferred; they are also interchangeable with Information Technology and symbols from other cultures are often not understood.
