The Azerbaijan Manat ( Azerbaijani Azərbaycan Manati ) or short Manat is the currency of Azerbaijan.

1 Manat is divided into 100 Qəpik (according to historical transcription from Cyrillic Gepik ). The currency was introduced in 1992 and existed in parallel to the first inherited from the Soviet era rubles. Beginning of 1994 was the sole national currency manat. Customary abbreviation for the Manat is also AM

Due to the rise in inflation, the old manat (ISO code AZM) by the new manat (ISO code AZN, 1 new manat = 5000 old manat ) was replaced on 1 January 2006. The new banknotes and coins were designed by Robert Kalina, designer of the euro banknotes. The new sign for the manat, "", a symbolic M, similar to a 90 degrees tilted to the right euro sign.

Banknotes for the old manat there were in the following denominations: 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 10,000, 50,000 manat. Coins, there were 5, 10, 20 and 50 Qəpik.

For the new manat there are coins of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Qəpik, the latter being a bimetallic coin is similar to the 2- euro coin and banknotes of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 manat.
