The Pataca is the currency of Macau. A Pataca is divided into 100 avos.
In circulation are the following value steps:
- Banknotes: 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 MOP
- Coins: 10, 20 and 50 Avos, and 1, 2, 5 and 10 MOP
The Pataca is pegged to the Hong Kong dollar and thus indirectly to the U.S. dollar. In business, the Hong Kong dollar, the Pataca is preferred.

History
In business, the Portuguese colony of Macao dominated in the 19th century next to the British and Chinese currency, known as Pataca Mexican silver dollars. First, just as invoicing unit with trade and financial transactions was the Pataca about 100 years before the official currency of Macau. Since 1905 in Lisbon is Portugal's Banco Nacional Marino Ultra ("Overseas National Bank" ) from Pataca notes. Since 1995, the Banco da China may (also Bank of China) Patacas spend.
