Daia Română

Daia Română ( Dallendorf German, Hungarian Oláhdálya ) is a town in Alba county in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

The community Daia Română lies to the east of the nature reserve Râpa Roşie ( " Red Canyon " ), in Zekesch Highlands ( Podişul Secaşelor ) in southwestern Transylvania. In a hilly landscape on the county road (Drum Judetean ) DJ 106K, the community is located 10 km north-east of Sebes and about the same distance south-east of the county capital Alba Iulia.

History

On the territory of the municipality, in the northwest of the town - known by the locals Parăut - were discovered from 1965 to 1971 during archaeological excavations items that indicate a settlement of the Neolithic period. In Turnu, about 1.5 kilometers west of the town, settlements have been found from the Middle Bronze Age the Wietenberg culture and the Hallstatt period.

The place Daia Română - more traditional German names are Thal and Luprechttal - was the first time in 1293 in a king Andrew III report. mentioned by Hungary under the Hungarian name Dalya. He was originally a village Transylvanian Saxon serf on Komitatsboden. Later, Romanians settled.

Population

1850 lived in today's village of 1571 inhabitants. 1531 were Romanians, 12 Hungarians, two Jews and 26 Roma. 1900, the number of Romanians had risen to 2091 and there were also 15 Hungary, two German and 24 other counted. In 1956 the highest number of inhabitants of the village ( 3190 ) - exclusively Romanians - registered. As of the 2002 census lived in Daia Română 3109 people, including 3103 Romanians and six Roma. The highest number of Hungarians (33 ) in 1880, the Germans ( 13) 1890 counted.

Attractions

  • The Romanian Orthodox Church, built from the 17th to the 20th century, is a protected monument under the patron Pogorârea Sf. Duh (Holy Spirit) in the list of the Romanian Ministry of Culture; under Sf. Treime (Holy Trinity) at biserici.org and because of extensive renovations, the church was blessed as Buna Vestire ( Annunciation ) on 10 July 2011.
  • The Village Museum, opened in 2006.
  • A Crossroads - Monument to the heroes of the First and Second World Wars, established in 1978.
