Daniel Baier ( born May 18, 1984 in Cologne ) is a German football player.
Career
Baier was born as the son of professional soccer players Jürgen Baier in Cologne. His father was at that time players at SC Fortuna Köln. After his father was changed in 1985 for only one season at Hanover 96, the family lived from 1986 in Aschaffenburg, where Jürgen Baier played at Viktoria Aschaffenburg. His brother Benjamin Baier is also a professional footballer.
Daniel Baier learned to play football at TSV Mainaschaff and Teutonia Obernau. Together with Marcel Schäfer he joined in 2000 by Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the youth of the TSV 1860 München. Baier plays as an attacking midfielder usually behind the strikers, he has playmaker qualities and is a good passer. His league debut came on 13 September 2003 ( 5th Round ) in a 2-1 victory at home to 1.FC Cologne when he came on in the 90th minute for Benjamin Lauth.
For the 2007/08 season Baier changes to VfL Wolfsburg, where he signed a three -year contract. On 1 September 2008, the FC Augsburg announced that Baier was loaned for one year until the end of season 2008/ 09 VfL Wolfsburg. After the end of the loan period Baier returned to Wolfsburg.
On 31 January 2010 it was announced that Daniel Baier returns to FC Augsburg. He got there a contract until 2012, he extended in March 2012 to 2014 and in January 2013 to 2016.
After Baier had already successfully passed through several stations in the youth teams of the DFB, he was appointed Dieter Eilts, 2005 in the U-21 national team, for whom he made his debut on 7 October 2005 during the European Cup qualifier in Braunschweig in the game against Wales.
