Daraga, Albay

Daraga is a town in the province of Albay in the Philippines, where many wealthy families are located. History

The word Daraga ( with accent on the last syllable) refers, according to legend, on a kind of tree which grew especially on the top of a hill in abundance, where today the famous baroque church of " Our Lady of the Gate Parish Church " stands. During the 12th century, most of the migrants are traders and settlers. When the Spaniards arrived in the village village under the direction of Juan de Salcedo, they called it Budiao, later Cagsawa. In 1587, the evangelization of the site and improvements made by the Franciscan missionaries were undertaken. In 1595 Cagsawa was raised to the category of a " visita " and was connected to the city Camalig. Fr Alfonso de Jadraque was the first pastor of Cagsawa.
