Legazpi, Albay

Legazpi (Filipino: Lungsod ng Legazpi; Bicolano: Ciudad nin Legazpi ) is a Philippine city in Albay province, whose capital it is. Legazpi is based on the population but not on the surface, the largest city in the Bicol Region. Legazpi is an important center of the Bicol Region. The city is located in the geographical center of the peninsula between the island provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate. Legazpi is also the southern terminus of the Philippine National Railways Main Line South and has a seaport on the Gulf of Albay.

Climate

The climate is tropical humid with an average annual temperature of 27.0 degrees and an average annual rainfall of 3217 mm. It is hot and humid all year without a clear dry season. In addition, the city is located directly in a transit area of typhoons that infest the city several times a year.

History

Legazpi was named after the Spanish conquistador and conqueror of the Philippine Islands Miguel López de Legazpi, whose family comes from the Spanish city of Legazpi in the province of Guipuzcoa.

Legazpi was founded by settlers of the barangays Sawangan in the territory of Gath Ibal ruler of Albay. The population lived at that time in small groups of Nipa - and Rattanhütten in a deep and swampy land. Regular events

Economy and infrastructure

The current largest shopping center in the Bicol region is the Pacific Mall Legazpi in the center of Landco Business Park, which is part of the company Landco Pacific Corporation.

The shopping center LCC Central Mall Legazpi is older and is part of the largest retail companies in the Bicol region, the Liberty Commercial Center (LCC ) based in the neighboring Tabaco City.

The Town Hall and various public offices are located in Albaydistrikt which was the capital of the province of Albay before the merger with Legazpi. There is also bistros that open until late into the night. Some of the shops are open around the clock.

Traffic

The Legazpi Airport has a 2280 meter long airstrip and be able to handle international flights. Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cebu Pacific fly twice daily from Manila to Legazpi. Cebu Pacific flies with aircraft of the type Airbus A319 and A320, Boeing 737 while PAL is used. Air Philippines flies three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday).

There are bus services between Legazpi and Manila. Travel time is 11-13 hours, three hours less on the newly constructed Andaya Highway. More than ten bus companies run daily to and from Manila.

Legazpi is the academic center of the Bicol Region.
