David Murdoch

David Murdoch ( born April 17, 1978 in Dumfries ) is a Scottish curler.

A native of Lockerbie Murdoch has won two World Junior Champion, 1995 in Perth. Than substitute for Tom Brewster Jr. and 1996 in Red Deer as the lead in the team of James Dryburgh In 1998 he won the Junior World Championships in Thunder Bay the silver medal, as third in the team of Garry MacKay. 1999 Murdoch rose to the position of the skip, the team captain, and reached at the Junior World Championships in Östersund 5th place

In 2003, he led Scotland in Courmayeur for the European title, beating in the final the Swedish team of Skip Peter Lindholm. 2005 Murdoch first participated in a World Championship; in Victoria (British Columbia ), he lost the final of the Canadian team of Randy Ferbey Skip. These good performances entitled him to participate in the 2006 Winter Olympics, where he competed for Great Britain, reaching number 4. Nearly two months later, Murdoch was in Lowell (Massachusetts ) with the Scottish team world champion.

In December 2006, his team won at the European Curling Championships in Basel the silver medal a year later in Fussen the European title. This title he successfully defended in 2008 in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.

In 2009 he won the Curling World Championship with his team in the Canadian Moncton. In the final they defeated the Canadian team to skip Kevin Martin.

At the European Championships in 2009 in Aberdeen, Scotland, he was defeated with his team in the play-offs for the Swiss team at Ralph Stöckli and finished at the end of the fourth.

As Skip Murdoch played at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in Team Great Britain with third Ewan MacDonald, Second Peter Smith, Euan Byers Lead and Alternate Graeme Connal. In the tie-break game his team defeated the Swedish Niklas Edin Skip to the end and finished fifth.

For the 2010 World Cup Murdoch defeated with his team in the Scottish qualifications against the team from Warwick Smith. However, he could as alternate in the team of Smith with the World Cup, but there was only one use. At the end of the Scottish team won the bronze medal, in the third place match they defeated the USA with Pete Fenson Skip 6:4.
